Minimum Degree/Diploma in Textile technology

Minimum experience of 1 year required

The tasks a Selector, Jute is expected to perform include:

Sorting, grading and classifying content according to colour, softness, strength and texture

Receiving bales of jute from godown

Spreading jute on the floor manually

Placing different grades of jute separately for classification

Preparing jute by twisting ends of form morahes (twisted jute) for stacking

Cutting long and hard roots with knife

Carrying jute to Softener Feeder for processing

Skilled in using tools and equipment

Skilled in forming morahes of jute

Knowledge of jute products manufacturing

Knowledge of different grades of jute and the parameters to sort them

Not applicable

Textile and Handloom Industry in India

India?s textile sector is one of the mainstays of the national economy. It is also one of the largest contributing sector of India?s export contributing 11 per cent to the country?s total export basket. The textile industry is labor intensive and is one of the largest employer. The industry realized export earnings worth US$ 41.57 billion in 2013-14. The Indian textiles industry, currently estimated at around US $108 billion, is expected to reach US $ 141 billion by 2021. The Indian government has come up with a number of export promotion policies for the textile sector. It has also allowed 100 per cent FDI in the Indian textiles sector under the automatic route.

The Jute industry occupies an important place in the national economy of India. India is the leading jute goods producing country in the world, accounting for about 70% of estimated world?s production. As per the RBI data, during the first half of 2013-14, export of jute and jute products from the country totalled to US$ 181.8 million (approx. INR 11 billion). According to the National Jute Board official, the type of technique used while manufacturing jute goods would find demand in Western markets. This shows that in coming decades a boom can be expected in the sector with immense demand of trained professionals. Therefore, the career as a Selector, Jute has a bright future and opportunities are going to rise in coming time.
