The tasks a Constable, Excise is expected to perform include:

Examining baggage, houses, shops, etc. for preventing smuggling or manufacture, storage and sale of illicit goods

Examining luggage of passengers in railway trains or platform, bus stations to detect illegal possession

Searching shops, godowns, houses for illegal storage of excisable goods

Guarding exits of factory and reporting cases of unauthorised or illegal traffic of goods to Excise Inspector

Checking consignments physically with relevant clearance documents when excisable goods are being removed from factories, godowns, etc.

Performing unskilled office duties e.g. carrying of dak

Skilled in examining luggage of passengers for any illicit content

Skilled in inspecting shops, factories, etc. for any smuggling related activity

Knowledge of relevant documents related to excise goods

Basic knowledge of the laws concerning excise and customs

Skilled in assisting the senior officials in case of a raid/inspection
