The tasks a Governess is expected to perform include:

Caring for children in private homes and looking after their recreation, diet, health and development

Teaching children good health and personal habits and assisting them in their studies

Arranging parties, outings and picnics for children

Taking disciplinary measures to control childrens behaviour

Ascertaining the cause of behaviour problems of children and devising means for solving them

Knowledge of the physical, intellectual, emotional and social development requirements of children

Ability to make close and trusting relationships with parents and children

Skilled in planning activities that are fun and help in the development of children

Ability to determine the cause of behavioural problems in children

Knowledge of health, safety and food hygiene

Basic knowledge of childrens psychology
