The tasks a Grave Digger is expected to perform include:

Digging graves with pick and shovel in grave-yards, cemeteries and church-yards

Marking out dimensions of grave on ground, digging earth with pick and shovel to excavate soil to required depth

Bracing sides of excavation with wooden props, when necessary to prevent coverings during or after burial of body

Refilling grave with earth after burial of dead body or lowering coffin in grave and covering it with planks or stone slabs to protect body being exhumed by carnivorous animals such as jackals, stray dogs, etc.

Assisting in lowering coffin into grave using ropes or cloth, etc.

Skilled in digging grave using pick and shovel

Skilled in measuring techniques required for checking the dimensions of a grave

Ability to lower coffin into graves
