Minimum Bachelors Degree in any stream and the examination of Staff Selection Commission passed

Minimum 2 years of experience required

The tasks an Inspector, Customs is expected to perform include:

Examining cargo and baggage of passengers to detect and prevent smuggling of goods in ports, aerodromes and across national borders

Obtaining passenger?s declaration regarding import and exports of articles

Examining passengersbaggage and carrying out personal search of suspects, passengers, etc.

Issuing clearance of baggage of passengers as per customs regulations

Keeping control over Officers and Sepoys and ensuring proper guarding of vital points in Docks and Bunders

Gathering information and intelligence reports about smuggling, taking required action and ensuring that defaulters have been brought to book

Performing surprise checks in vessels of merchant navy, country crafts, aircrafts, shops, etc.

Knowledge of list of all the items under taxable and non-taxable

Knowledge of all the laws regarding the customs of the country

Skilled in inspecting luggage at international borders, airports, etc.

Skilled in personally searching and questioning suspects at airports, docks, etc.

Skilled in taking legal action against any defaulter of customs regulation

Knowledge of efficient investigating techniques and try to prevent any miscreant from doing something wrong

Skilled in booking any defaulter and handing him/her to the police/authorities
