News Library In-Charge

The tasks a News Librarian is expected to perform include:

Managing information resources library which stores files, tape or microfilm or in computers for use by news and editorial staff in publishing establishments

Directing activities of workers engaged in clipping, classifying, cataloguing, indexing, storing, editing and retrieving library information or performing these activities as needed

Researching, retrieving and disseminating information in resource library or commercial databases in response to requests from news or editorial staff

Maintaining records and statistics on use of databases and information services provided

Managing in-house database of news information, assigning classification terms to news articles into database and research news information in in-house database

Skilled in managing information resources in a library

Basic knowledge of computers and database

Skilled in storing news and information resources according to category

Knowledge of all the newspapers, magazines, journals, etc. available in the area

Skilled in maintaining up-to-date resources in the library

Ability to classify news and other information for ease of reading
