The tasks an Area Sales Officer is expected to perform include:

Selling electronic products and services to individuals as well as institutional customers

Planning and achieving sales/productivity targets

Negotiating with the customers to ensure profit on each transaction

Collecting data and analysing the market/client requirement

Coordinating with channel sales partners

Providing training to new/junior sales persons

Managing customer relationship and after sales services

Knowledge about applications, features and specifications of industrial electronic products and services

Understanding of sales cycle and ability to close the sales transaction ensuring profits

Understanding of companys sales and after sales policies

Ability to survey the market and assess the customer specific requirement

Ability to conduct stocktaking, calculate profitability and develop pricing strategy

Computer literate with ability to analyse data in Microsoft Excel and use internal process software such as ERP

Understanding of local customer preferences, geographic nuances and sales peculiarities

Knowledge about basic electrical or electronics involved in the functioning of products offered

Previous relevant work experience

Good persuasion skills and analytical thinking

Ability to work for long hours

Current Scenario of Electronics Industry in India

The Government of India has set up Electronic Hardware Technology Parks (EHTPs), Special Economic Zones (SEZs) and has brought about a favourable climate for foreign direct investment (FDI).

It has also increased liberalisation and relaxed tariffs to promote growth in the sector. The growing customer base and the increased penetration in consumer durables segment has provided enough scope for the growth of the Indian electronics sector.

Also, digitisation of cable could lead to increased broadband penetration in the country and open up new avenues for companies in the electronics industry.

Future Prospects and Latest Trends in Electronics Sector in India

The electronics market is one of the largest in the world and is anticipated to reach US$ 400 billion in 2022 from US$ 69.6 billion in 2012. The market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 24.4 per cent during 2012-2020.
