Overview of Poultry Sector in India
India is the world's fifth largest egg producer, with a total production of 40 billion eggs per year. The broiler industry is growing at the rate of 10 percent per annum. The industry has great potential to expand because 30 percent of the country's population (about 300 million people) is developing economically, and hence the demand for poultry products is likely to grow. Considering the rise in the disposable income, urbanization and change in lifestyle of the people, the demand for meat and meat products has increased nationally.
The poultry industry in India has become more scientific, better organized and continuously progressing toward modernization. Adoption of the latest and advanced technology in poultry technology can provide better quality products and more employment opportunities. As the awareness of the importance of research and development is growing, so are the job opportunities in various research fields. Poultry Scientists are employed by various organizations, and their job prospects are expected to grow in the future.
