Minimum MSc (Geology)

Preferably minimum 5 years of experience in relevant field

The tasks a Petrologist is expected to perform include:

Studying composition, structure and genesis of rocks and minerals forming earths crust

Studying thin section of rocks and minerals using microscopes

Tracing causes of rock and mineral formation on basis of microscopic studies, pattern of sedimentation, etc.

Recording genetic classification of rocks and reconstructing geological history of sedimentation and igneous activities

Advising on economic exploitation and composition of rocks

Indicating likely pattern of ore and mineral concentration

Skilled in using microscopes, mapping software, compasses, picks and rock hammers or chisels

Knowledge of chemical composition, structure and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo

Skilled in investigating the composition, structure and history of the earth's crust

Knowledge of practical application of engineering science and technology

In-depth knowledge of characteristics of rocks and different types of rocks

Skilled in classifying rocks according to their properties
