The tasks a General Manager, Recreation and Entertainment is expected to perform include:

Controlling, co-ordinating and supervising all activities within authority delegated

Ensuring efficient and economic utilization of men, money and material in public and private organization or branches/departments engaged in producing, distributing and exhibiting motion pictures

Producing and presenting stage and circus shows; organization and presenting radio and television broadcasts, operating carnivals and amusement parks; organizing games, sports, hunting, fishing, excursion, competitions, etc.

Providing other entertainment and recreation service as per the need of the customer

Well-versed with planning and strategizing business activities

Proficient in delegating work

Knowledge of different laws governing the recreation and entertainment industry in India

Proficient in different marketing concepts and strategies

Well-versed with current trends in Indian recreation and entertainment industry

Proficient in recruiting, selecting, training and counseling managers

Will be updated

Overview of Film and Television Sector in India

The Media and Entertainment industry is one of the fastest growing sectors in the country. The television segment in India accounts for over 40% of the revenues. It also contributes to above 35% of the revenues to the Indian advertising industry. The film industry, on the other hand, has seen a tremendous growth and has become a brand name in the recent years. This has helped it to enter the international market.

The current employment across Media & Entertainment sector is estimated to be over 1 million persons (in terms of direct employment only). The Private Final Consumption Expenditure (PFCE) on Entertainment is expected to grow at a CAGR of 13% to 14% between 2008 and 2022.

Thus with the growing private spending and demand for entertainment and recreation activities in India,it is expected that the total employment in the Media and Entertainment industry would increase from about 1 to 1.1 million persons in 2008 to about 4 to 4.1 million persons in 2022, an incremental human resource requirement of about 3 million persons for the job role like General Manager, Manager, Publicity Manager, etc.
