Post office

Minimum -10th standard pass

Postmasters are usually promoted to the post from within, hence prior experience in various departments in a post office is preferred

The tasks a Post Master is expected to perform include:Controlling and co-ordinating the work of all reporting employees in the post-office Ensuring efficient service is provided to the public in accordance with prescribed rules and regulations

Allocating and assigning responsibilities of subordinate personnel in the office Maintaining counters to facilitate service provided to public Displaying relevant postal rules and regulations and publicizes sales of special and commemorative stamp issues, Government bonds, etc. Controlling sale of postage envelopes, stamps and other postal stationery and checking timely collection and delivery of letters, money orders, etc. within area prescribed Checking cash book amounts, saving bank accounts and other prescribed records Rendering accounts to audit offices and sub-offices Disbursing pay and allowance to all categories of staff working in the post office or branch offices Supervising functions of telegraph office, if attached to post office Keeping cash and valuables in joint custody with the treasurer

Post Master usually work for 5/6 days a week and minimum 8 hours every day

Shift work is available in case of night post offices

Post offices are closed on Sundays and P.O. holidays, however night post offices work

Postmaster Grade I INR 5,200 to INR 20,200 per monthPostmaster Grade II, Grade III INR 9,300 to INR 34,800 per monthThey are also paid TRCA (Time Related Continuity Allowance) above fixed salary(These figures are indicative and subject to change)
