Manager Food Processing Plant

Minimum B. Sc. (Chemical, Dairy Technology, Food Technology)

Minimum experience of 10 to 12 years in a relevant field

The tasks a Manager, Food Processing Plant is expected to perform include:

Directing and co-ordinating the activities of the food processing plant

Contacting the buyers or growers to make arrangements for purchasing or harvesting the delivery of food products

Directing the staff through subordinate supervisory personnel

Managing the workers engaged in the processing, canning, freezing, storing and shipping of food products

Directing and co-ordinating the activities concerned with the dismantling, moving, installing or repairing of machines and equipment

Approving the plant payroll and the payments for purchased materials or products

Estimating the quantities of foods required for processing

Ordering the foods, materials, supplies and equipment as per the needs of the plant

Hiring, transferring and discharging employees of the plant unit

Providing suppliers with transportation to expedite the delivery of purchased products or supplies to the plant

Arranging for the freezing of packaged products by other food processing plants

Negotiating with the suppliers of the raw food

Knowledge of agricultural products, seafood, meat or other raw materials

Proficient in the processes involving the processing, canning, freezing, storing and shipping of food products

Knowledge of the machines and equipment required for food processing

Skilled in the activities of managing personnel in a manufacturing/processing plant

Aware of the various suppliers of raw materials

Familiar with the laws and regulations regarding food processing

Familiar with the quality control methods and requirements in food processing

Knowledge of basic accounting principles

Skilled in supply chain logistics

Master?s in Business Administration

The candidate will supervise a team of Plant Workers and Supervisors

Local travelling maybe a part of this job role

The Food Industry in India

The latest figures have revealed that the total food production in India is likely to double in the next 10 years as the country?s domestic food market is estimated to reach US$ 258 billion by 2015.

Considering all the world data, the Indian food and grocery market is the world?s sixth largest with its retail contributing 70 per cent of the sales. It is projected to grow at a rate of 104 per cent, touching US$ 482 billion by 2020. This indicates a vast scope for both investors and exporters.

Given all these figures it is safe to say that the demand for a Manager, Food Processing Plant is there in the present and will surely increase in coming years.
